Tru-Torque Systems for Low Voltage High Speed Motor Applications

If you’ve ever been on a motorcycle with an aggressive engine you know that when you hit the gas, it takes time for the engine to respond.tru-torque systems This is a good thing because it helps prevent over revving and provides control and performance. The problem is that if you are trying to ride smoothly, the constant throttle response can quickly become distracting and annoying.

Similarly, when it comes to low voltage high speed motor applications there are some physical limits that cannot be ignored but can be engineered around with the use of tru-torque systems.tru-torque systems Issues such as inductance, current ripple and thermal behavior are not independent problems but consequences of design decisions made at the motor and drive level.

When working with very high torque, low voltage motor applications the power requirement can exceed the supply system capacity. This is due to the relationship between motor voltage constant Ke and motor current requirements. The lower the Ke is the more current will be required. This can lead to issues with efficiency and can also increase the likelihood of a runaway condition.

The tru-torque systems can be programmed to react very quickly to feedback from the motor and load to optimize the input power to the system. This could include using digital voltage level shifting to match the output power to the motor requirements. Frequency can also be adjusted in real time to minimize current ripple.

ECA Medical Instruments is demonstrating the new TruTORQ and TruPWR single-procedure torque limiting instruments along with the full line of surgery ready procedural sets for trauma, extremities, spine, CMF and large joint implants and constructs at the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in Chicago from March 23-25, 2022. Visit the company at booth #3704 in McCormick Place.

The tru-torque systems are ergonomically designed for surgeons, have speed controlled torque limiting and come as a sterile pack with all validations to be shipped directly to hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers (ASC). Designed to work alongside existing power tools, the system requires no additional power supply or ancillary equipment and is safe to operate on multiple surgeons during a case, reducing the operating room cost and increasing surgery throughput.
